Wifey Gets Car-Jacked
For real. So, my first day in like 4 months that I don't need the car and only the 2nd day in that same period of time that my wife really could benefit from having a car, so she takes the car to school (remember, my car died about 4 months back and we had been planning for a while now to go buy me a new one next week). At around 1:15pm, I get a call from her hysterical-she had been car-jacked.
Now, this sucks, and it's not funny...but there are some funny elements. My wife, having two men armed with a 4-5" knife threatening her to go away, stands there and, in hysterics, begs them for her...school notes (she has a test on Monday; seriously, I think the wonders of medicine is not so much the amazing nature of the cures that have been developed, but the things that the process of becoming a doctor will do to people. :) ). Somehow, this begging works and one of the criminals has a moment of...well...I'm not really sure...and he reaches into the back seat of the car, grabs my wife's bag (which she had put in the car before the robbery started), opens the door, and tosses the bag on the ground before the other guy gets in and they drive away. So, not only did my wife save the school notes that she was mortified to lose - in the process, she managed to hold onto her laptop computer, her wallet, and her cell phone. She also somehow ended up with the GPS system that she was holding in her hand during the majority of the actual interaction with the criminals (read a few posts back to remind yourself how much I love my GPS...).
In a turn of good fortune, a police car drove by very soon after and the rest of the day was a blur of taking stock of what was in the car, having the locks replaced on our house (her entire keychain was taken), talking to insurance agents, and figuring out where we were going to get wheels for the immediate future (thanks, Jason and Rachel!).
Fortunately for me, I had grabbed my buyer presentation book out of the car yesterday (I seriously could never explain to you how huge that is for me and how much time it would have taken to re-create that book). Unfortunately, I did have two pre-listing presentations stolen, but I have a third copy that I can use to recreate new copies. I also had some sign riders (which I can re-buy) and my golf clubs (which I needed new ones anyway) in the car but, again, my wife came home safe (and with the same number of holes in her body that she left home with) and she had miraculously managed to keep her bag (if she doesn't get that bag back, it is very likely that we would be adding a 5th year onto this stage of her medical training).
So, it's been an interesting day.
On a good note, I learned yesterday that I finished my first month back at my original office as top producer for the month, so that was a nice "second start" there. :)
Well, I have more e-mails to write and it's getting late.
Thanks for reading!
Peace,
Greg
